8. The WebAlias Network Search Engine and Directory
a. How does the WebAlias search engine work?
Our search engine scans our Directory of member sites and site descriptions looking for the search text specified by the user.

Search terms are not assumed to be whole words, so, if the user asked to search for "ball", that would match baseball, balloon, basketballs, etc.

b. How can I make my searches most effective?
Unless you specify the MATCH ALL WORDS option, the more words you specify, the more results you will return. If you're getting too many matches that don't interest you, consider using only a few words and require that they all match.

If you are looking for a particular WebAlias that you can only partially recall, type in a few of the letters you think that WebAlias contained and select the "Search WebAliases Only" option.

c. How can I maximize the chances that my WebAlias will come up in other people's searches?
The most important thing you can do is provide a well-thought out description of your site. Ideally, your site's description should include the important words that people would use to search for such a website.

However, simply stringing together key words is not a solution. This tactic may increase the chance that your site will match someone's search, but, if you haven't described your website in an enticing way, it is less likely that the person will follow up and actually visit your site.
